Authors’ Village Marks 11th Anniversary

The Nation’s premier Pride gathering of authors

We are privileged to feature GLBT writers at the Author’s Village for the eleventh year.  Celebrating the diversity of our community and the tremendous creativity of our writers, we recognize how important it is for us to support their work.  In a challenging economy and with an ever-changing publishing field, support for the arts and especially for GLBT authors can be difficult.    At the same time, we can celebrate the doors that are opening to first time and veteran writers using “print on demand’ and online formats.  Thanks to all who are participating this year.

A new and exciting feature of this year’s Village is the entertainment venue where there will be readings, discussion, panels and featured presentations throughout the  festival.  Felice Picano will discuss coming out in New York and his book True StoriesGreg Hinton (Cathedral City) will bring his acclaimed “Out at the Autry” program celebrating GLBT life in the west and the rodeo.  Be sure to check out our full schedule at the festival.

Bidulka, Herren, Picano to join growing list of notable authors at 2011 pride festival.

Greg Herren

We are proud to have Anthony Bidulka join us this year.  His well-received Russell Quant series of mysteries includes the newest entry Date With A Sheesha.  These novels are thoroughly entertaining.    Alan Chin will be signing his newest book Butterfly’s Child.

Local author and Leatherman, Alex Ironrod has a new and steamy novel just released.  Leather Nights represents a new form for him: his first BDSM murder mystery.  Set in heSan Fernando Valley where vehicles are expensive, murder victims are beautiful and wealthy, and the porn industry is powerful!

Popular San Francisco author Mark Abramson has a new book in his Beach Reading series.  Wedding Season is a welcome edition and sure to please fans and new readers alike.

Celebrating women’s fiction, we hope to present several Bold Strokes Press authors.  Lisa Girolami is a popular Southern California author with her newest book Jane DoeAshley Bartlett (Sex and Skateboards) and Rebekah Weatherspoon (Better Off Red)  both from LA  have  new books out this Fall.

Greg Herren is one of the hottest writers in the current GLBT book scene.  With several terrific series, we are fortunate to have him read from his newest books including Murder in the Garden District, a new Scotty Bradley mystery, Who Dat Whodunnit.

Local author,   Marshall Thornton will be signing Desert Run,  his newest book.  A Ride on the Cosmic Slingshot by George Melton is a metaphysical memoir set in the early days of the AIDS Epidemic. John Shekleton will be discussing his new novel Father Tierney Stumbles, the provocative story of a closeted gay priest who learns he is HIV positive.

These are just a few of the authors who will be participating this year.  Further details and schedule will be forthcoming.

The Author’s Village events are a great way to meet your favorite writers and ask about their works as well as have your books signed.  For GLBT publishing to thrive and survive your support is needed.  Come and enjoy the events at the Pride Festival this year.  Read, pass along a book to a friend, join a book discussion club.  Above all, give thanks for the ranks of terrific GLBT authors telling their stories and enriching our lives.
