Greater Palm Springs Pride has opened the nomination process for the 2012 Pride Honors. Each year a slate of honorees are selected for their many contributions to the lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender community. Palm Springs Pride seeks community support to find those most deserving of recognition.
Palm Springs Pride seeks individuals, groups, organizations or businesses that have positively contributed to the LGBT community in numerous ways. Contributions will be recognized in the following categories: Organization of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Community Service, Community Grand Marshal, Celebrity Grand Marshal, Special Guest and Lifetime Achievement.
In 2011 Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to equal rights activist Jean Harris, John Palatinus, a Palm Springs octogenarian and mid-century beefcake photographer, and Gilbert Baker, the creator of the rainbow flag. Geoff Kors and James Williamson were recognized as 2011 Spirit of Stonewall Special Guests for their activism, volunteerism and community service on behalf of the LGBT community; and proud advocates for LGBT causes George Zander and Dana Adkins were recognized with the Spirit of Stonewall Community Service Award.
Serving as grand marshal was 16 year old anti-bullying activist Caleb Laieski from Surprise, Arizona. Community grand marshals were business woman Mindy Reed, and the founders of Palm Springs Front Runners and Walkers Lee Walton and Phil Catalli. Joining them as celebrity grand marshals were radio personalities Bill Feingold and Kevin Holmes.
