Alice B. Toklas Celebrates PSP 2023

Celebrate Palm Springs Pride with a reading of a one-woman show based on the life of Alice B. Toklas performed by veteran actress Barbara Kerr to introduce and help fund the future LGBTQ World History Museum. Titled The Necessary Luxury Company, which is how Gertrude referred to Alice during their 40-year relationship was written by Marty Martin as a bookend to his highly acclaimed monologue Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein performed by the late Pat Carroll. The play takes place after Gertrude’s death on an evening when Alice has invited a few of her friends for a sumptuous dinner she prepares while reminiscing about her extraordinary life with Gertrude Stein and the myriad artists and writers that peopled their lives.
